Athletes
Athletes learn to listen, apply feedback and train with purpose, while encouraging the people sharing their lane. Effort and a willingness to learn matter at every level.
Our club
Fleetwood Mako’s brings athletes, water-polo players, coaches, families and volunteers together through sport. From a first club assessment to committed training and competition, our aim is to help athletes develop their skills and find their place in the team.

Our story
Fleetwood’s competitive swimming story spans generations of athletes, coaches, families and volunteers. The names and kit have evolved, but the commitment to representing the town and developing people through sport remains.
Today, the club offers Development and Performance swimming, junior and adult water polo, specialist learning and team experiences. Athletes can build skills, take on new challenges and share their progress with people who understand the effort involved.

The Mako family

Athletes learn to listen, apply feedback and train with purpose, while encouraging the people sharing their lane. Effort and a willingness to learn matter at every level.

Coaches set clear expectations, explain what athletes are working on and give practical feedback. They help athletes understand the next step in their development.

Families support a regular training routine, keep in touch with the team and help athletes enjoy their progress. Club events also give parents and carers a chance to get to know one another.

Volunteers help make training, competition and club events possible. Their time and skills support the everyday experience athletes and families have at Mako’s.

Junior and adult players learn, train and compete within the same club community. Experienced players help younger teammates understand the game, while adults have their own opportunities to stay involved and develop.
Home base
The club trains at Fleetwood Health and Fitness Centre on The Esplanade. The 25-metre, seven-lane main pool supports the core swimming programme.
The Mako Clubhouse and gym provide a member space for club history, meetings and coached development away from the water. Land training, mobility and other activities are arranged by the coaching team to suit the athletes taking part.

Presentation night
Presentation night brings the Mako family together to recognise athletes’ progress and achievements, and the support of families, coaches and volunteers throughout the season.
It is a shared celebration of the work that happens week after week: a chance to take pride in your own journey and celebrate your team-mates.

Club life
Training, racing and matches are part of a wider club life that includes team events, specialist sessions and presentation nights. These are chances to recognise effort and improvement, build friendships and share the season with other athletes and families. Optional camps offer further experiences when suitable places are available.
