If your athlete needs more practice before a Mako’s trial, ask their teacher which skills to focus on. If they have already had a club assessment, share the coach’s feedback with their teacher. When their technique and confidence have developed, contact Mako’s about the next step.

Swimming lessons for children aged three and over, including preschool Duckling awards and Swim England Stages 1–7. The centre also describes progression to Rookie Lifeguard after Stage 7.

Puddle Ducks' separate baby and preschool programme at Ribby Hall Village is for ages 0–4, with progressive classes for early water confidence and swimming development.
Water safety and new skills
These are different pathways: Rookie develops water-safety skills; professional pool lifeguarding requires a separate qualification. Always check the provider’s current entry requirements.
Fleetwood · ages 8–16
Try a different swimming challenge with rescue skills, first aid and water-safety learning. Fleetwood Health and Fitness Centre lists Rookie Lifeguard for ages 8–16 who can swim 100m confidently and are comfortable in deep water. Ask the centre to confirm suitability and current sessions.
Professional pool lifeguarding
For professional pool lifeguarding, the RLSS UK National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) has a minimum age of 16 at the final assessment and swimming prerequisites. Ask Fleetwood Health and Fitness Centre about upcoming courses, entry checks and booking arrangements.
